Nepal Project

Hello back! Today’s post is a very special project developed for an ONG in Nepal and I was asked to create two perspectives images. It was a great challenge because I had to understand the main concept, the natural environment and equally important as the building structure/system. The project is a small ampliation for a children hospital that needs better conditions.

This time we had to come up with two different weather situations mainly because it’s Nepal natural characterization.

This perspective mains to represent a typical raining day with the existing natural surroundings, the intensive forest and mountains on the back and very fertile grass in the image’s first plan.

My main challenge in this project was to represent the materials used. Taking into account we didn’t have a big budget, the design had to respect the traditional building methods and their local knowledge. The architect in charge decided to recreate a base perimeter in stone that will work both structurally as well as furniture, creating a side bench. The other part of the building had to be designed in light materials but always bearing in mind that they should be easy to get and work with. Bamboo, light metal panels and dried grass were the chosen ones.

The simplicity of the project that relies not on just the materials but in the architectural organisation, creates a balanced relationship with the surroundings. The diagonal difference of roofs position adds dynamism to a very small project. Moreover, the roofs position helps to direct the ventilation and the lighting, through wall windows on the side.

For me, that’s the true purpose of what I do, even if for many people it’s just something disposable, I visualise and help to bring to life a project that is just in the creator’s mind. There’s an amount of emotions that are lost when we don’t communicate our ideas, especially if people are not from our area, they struggle to understand the message. We don’t have to be professional in every area and understand what people are talking about, particularly if we have the tools in our hands that can shorten the distance of misunderstanding for both sides.

All of these because lately, I have been facing prejudice and arrogance through the new technologies and tools. It’s easy to have this kind of attitude when you’re in a comfortable place. I won’t long myself, don’t worry, I’ll keep the rest for the next time.
